FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Pets
We can transport small pets – cats, dogs, small rodents, pet rabbits, and ferrets – weighing up to 10 kg (including the cage or carrier). The animal must be carried in an IATA-approved carrier not exceeding the maximum dimensions of 46 × 31 × 25 cm, so that it can be placed under the seat in front of you. The cage/carrier must be fully closed, bite-proof, and leak-proof. Only one carrier per passenger is permitted in the cabin.
A dog or cat travelling in the cabin must be placed in a carrier that complies with IATA guidelines and is suitable for the animal being transported.
The animal must be able to stand up, sit, turn around, and lie down in natural positions.
The carrier must:
- have at least 16% of its vertical surfaces fitted with ventilation openings;
- be escape-proof;
- be waterproof, i.e. not allow urine or feces to leak;
- be fitted with absorbent material inside (puppy pads with a waterproof backing).
Dogs and cats must be accustomed to remaining in the carrier used for travel, so as to minimize stress caused by being confined in a small space.
To avoid inconvenience to other passengers, we may assign a seat at the rear of the cabin (last rows).
To travel on Aeroitalia flights, the pet must have:
- a Pet Passport (for international flights) or health booklet (for domestic flights) issued by a veterinarian, showing vaccination records (a valid and up-to-date rabies vaccination is mandatory for international flights) and the animal’s health status;
- a microchip (for international flights);
- a minimum age of 12 weeks.
A maximum of 6 animals per flight is permitted; therefore, we recommend adding the pet transport service at the time of booking to avoid availability issues.
